How to Enroll in Alternative Medicine Schools
If you've long been interested in alternative forms of healing, it may be time for you to look into alternative medicine schools and make your interest into a career. Here's a few tips to help you locate and enroll in alternative medicine schools.
One of the first things you need to do is identify alternative medicine schools that are in your area. Chances are that if you live in a major population center, there will be at least one or two possible options. If there is not one in your community, you will need to expand your search to neighboring communities. The Internet is a great way to locate alternative medicine schools, as well as get some basic information about how what they will require before you will receive a degree.
Once you have identified the institutions you wish to investigate further, find out how their application procedure is configured. While some alternative medicine schools may begin with a very basic application form, some may invite you to attend open houses at the school before you actually apply. Also, keep in mind that as part of your application, you may be required to submit an essay. If at all possible, determine if the school is looking for an essay that is written with more of a personal approach, or one that prefers an informational essay. If the brochures or website for the school does not provide specific direction on the structure of the essay, contact their admissions department and ask them. This one piece of information may make the difference between acceptance and rejection.
Having a mentor can help as well. Ask your homeopathic physician to share with you his or her experience in attending classes and obtaining certification. While alternative medicine schools may vary somewhat in how they do things, this will at least provide you with a general idea. As a bonus, your physician may also be willing to write a letter of endorsement to the school. The endorsement will help the school to understand you are serious about pursuing a career in alternative healthcare, and just might be the edge that you need.
If an interview is not required prior to submitting an application, you may be asked to interview with an admissions officer. Many alternative medicine schools will want to talk with you face to face before you begin classes. As with any professional interview, dress appropriately and be prepared to answer any questions that may be put to you. The interview may also be a good time for you to ask any questions you may have about the school that have not been addressed up to that point.
With the growing interest in alternative health, many alternative medicine schools are actively seeking qualified students. If you have a true interest and exhibit the characteristics the school feels are necessary to successfully complete the program, you will be off to a great start.
